Our History

The Bennett Law Firm, LLP has served Valdosta and South Georgia for five decades.  Jim T. Bennett, Jr. founded the Firm in 1960.  Mr. Bennett had a reputation for aggressively representing his clients’ interests and seeing that their rights were protected.  Mr. Bennett devoted a lifetime of service to his country and to his community.  He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and retired as a Colonel in the United States Air Force Reserve in 1975.  Mr. Bennett also served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1966-1975.  Although Mr. Bennett retired from a very successful legal career in 1995, he left quite a legacy.  Mr. Bennett’s son, Mike S. Bennett, Sr., joined the Firm in 1977.  Mike’s son, Michael, Jr., joined the Firm in 1993, and his Attorneys Valdosta Georgiaother son, Jim, joined in 1998.  Together, Mike and his sons are the managing partners of the Firm.  The Bennett Family has the unique distinction of being the only three-generation family law firm in the history of the State of Georgia to successfully present and argue a case before the Georgia Supreme Court.  The Bennett Law Firm, LLP was presented with a certificate by the Georgia Supreme Court which acknowledged this achievement.

Our Firm has had the good fortune to have been involved in some of the biggest verdicts and settlements in South Georgia history. In November, 2001, our Firm obtained the largest jury verdict in the history of Lowndes County: $1,870,000 ($1.87 million) in a business fraud case. Since 2001, we have also settled multiple personal injury and medical malpractice cases with the collective total of such cases being more than $8 million.

Our Firm maintains a large staff of legal assistants and secretaries. Typically, we have a two to one ratio of staff to attorneys. This allows us to put the necessary time and effort into our cases and to address all of our clients’ needs. We have always maintained a manageable case load so that we can give each case the attention that it deserves. Our training, experience, hard work, attention to detail, professionalism, and a great staff has been our recipe for success since 1960.
